For those of you who don’t know what Doctor Who Legacy is,
may I refer you to my earlier post here.
For those who do, have you played it recently? It’s been upgraded to version
2.0 with new team based Perks and the release of Season 5. There’s been a few
patches as you’d expect, and at time of posting we’re on V2.1B. There’s also
been an admirable stream of new allies and costumes, giving insatiable
fans something to chew on. I’m impressed with the upgrade. Not over the moon, best thing since Doctor Who back on telly, I renounce all other games
impressed, but the game is improved and there is significant new content.
The Perks give you options to customise your team’s
strengths and weaknesses, get 10% resistance to Yellow or decrease
the Doctor’s cool down for example. They are significant enough to make you think carefully about the best combination,
and you can change them at no cost. This allows you adjust Perks for especially challenging Episodes, temporarily choosing resistance to poison for instance. However once you’re
actually playing an Ep it’s easy to forget they exist. The presentation lacks any imagination as well. It would have been cool if they were dressed as artifacts from the show. Equip the Metebelis Crystal and help your team resist stun effects, a
fragment of the Key To Time allowing the Doctor to freeze his
opponents etc. Just about every television episode has some item that
could be used. Excalibur, future Sonic, 3D glasses, Nitro-9 etc. These could
sit on the game screen as a bit of eye-candy, plus a reminder of what Perks you
have equipped.

So V2.0 is definitely an improvement. It now has more
strategic flexibility, much more content, and more to keep you engaged when
you’ve beaten all the Episodes. The only reservation I have is that the Perks
are a bit bland. Something for V3.0 I suggest.
Doctor Who Legacy is a great game. Add to that fact an early refresh and expansion, various awards piling up, and the game makers having 50
years (and counting) of source material to draw from, then it should age well too.
